NIIT introduces “Professional Diploma in Digital Transformation – Big Data with Hadoop” program under its digiNxt series.

Big data is a term for data sets that are so large or complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. Datasets across organizations are growing rapidly, thanks to cheap and numerous information-sensing mobile devices, software logs, cameras, microphones, wireless sensor networks, etc. The world's technological per-capita capacity to store information has roughly doubled every 40 months since the 1980s; every day 2.5 exabytes (that is 2.5 followed by staggering 18 zeros) of data is created. Not just volume, big data also encompasses high velocity and high variety of data.

Gartner defines “Big data as high volume, high velocity, and/or high variety information assets that require new forms of processing to enable enhanced decision making, insight discovery and process optimization."
